Abstract

The article presents the data of an instrumental assessment of the parameters of extra
fine wool with the fineness of 17.0-20.2 microns (80-70 of quality) of show stud rams, the
participants of the All-Russian exhibition in Mineralnye Vody in 2021.
It is a common fact that the most important property of wool as a raw material for industry is its fineness (thickness). The fineness of the wool is measured by the size of the
cross-section of wool fiber, expressed in micrometers (1 micron = 10-6 m) The commercial value of sheep wool as a raw material for the processing industry is
determined by many of its physical properties, one of which is fineness – the diameter of the
fiber cross-section. It is the most important characteristic of wool, which has the greatest effect on the fineness of the yarn and as a result determines the technology value of wool. On
the international market, the trend is the thinnest types of wool (14.5-19.0 microns – 80-70 of
quality). The thinner the wool, the more expensive it is [1,2,3].
The results of extra fine wool of show stud rams studies indicate that the average rate
for this parameter regionally was the following: the Republic of Kalmykia – 18.1 microns,
Rostov Region – 19.1 microns, Stavropol Territory – 19.3 microns, Astrakhan Region – 19.6
microns. According to the breeds, the finest wool was found in stud rams of the CM (Chernozemelsky Merino) – 17.5 microns (80 of quality), the further ranking was as follows: GT
(Grozny breed) – 18.3 microns – 70 of quality, DM (Dzhalginsky Merino) – 18. 8 microns –
70 of quality, ST (Stavropol breed) – 18.9 microns – 70 of quality, SM (Soviet Merino) – 19.1
microns – 70 of quality and MM (Manych merino) – 19.8 microns – 70 of quality. Based on
the price potential of these unique assortments of wool, ranging in fineness from 17.0 to 20.2
microns, it is recommended in the article to breed sheep with the desired fineness for use in
the textile industry in the production of brand-name items of Russian own brands.
