COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MORPHOLOGICAL BLOOD PARAMETERS OF PUREBRED AND CROSSBRED SHEEP

Abstract

Blood, being an integrating system of the internal environment of the body,
is a valuable and fairly objective material for assessing the condition of the body, and hematological parameters in the internal assessment of animals acquire significant importance. The
aim of the study was a comparative analysis of the morphological parameters of the blood of
purebred Kalmyk and crossbred animals obtained by crossing with the Dorper breeders in the
Republic of Kalmykia. Scientific and production experiment was conducted on the basis of
the peasant farm enterprise “Arl” of the Republic of Kalmykia in 2022. For this purpose, two
groups of yearlings of 15 head each were formed on the basis of random selection: I – Kalmyk fat-tailed breed and II – crossbreeds with blood relationship (½ Kalmyk fat-tailed + ½
Dorper). The blood of experimental animals served as the material for the research. For hematological studies, blood was taken from the jugular vein in the morning before feeding into the
Monovette blood collection tubes with the anticoagulant K3-EDTA. It was found that the
crossbred yearlings had 4,4% more leukocytes. The percentage of red blood cell volume to
the total blood volume (hematocrit HCT) was significantly higher than that of purebred animals by 17,2%. In terms of the mean corpuscular volume (MCV), the superiority was 18,9%,
and in terms of the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCH) – 12,6%, in terms of
hemoglobin level in the blood – by 8,7%, which indicates a better supply of oxygen to the
body and increases the activity of aerobic oxidative processes, and also testifies to a high
adaptive skills to changes in housing conditions.
