The reproduction process plays an important role in increasing mutton
production. Well-timed inclusion of young ewes and ewes in reproduction allows increasing
the percentage of breeding efficiency, and, accordingly, the production of offspring in
animals. This can be facilitated by hormonal preparations, in particular, the new domestic
preparation “Fergolin”, which is produced by LLC “NITA-FARM”. The aim of the research
was to establish the effect of the new domestic hormonal preparation “Fergolin” on the
reproductive function of sheep. Experimental studies were conducted in the peasant farm
enterprise “Arl” of the Yashkulsky District of the Republic of Kalmykia in 2023-2024. The
treatment of ewes with the hormonal preparation “Fergolin” was carried out in the autumn
(October) without presynchronization of estrus. It was found that the use of a new hormonal
preparation “Fergolin” a day before mating, stimulates and synchronizes the estrus of ewes.
So, in 7 days, on average, 83,3 % of the treated animals were in heat, while in control animals
this number averaged to 66,6 %. According to the results of lambing, it was found that
breeding efficiency in animals of the experimental groups was 11,9 and 13,0% higher
compared to the control group and amounted to 84,6 and 85,7 versus 72,7 %, respectively.
The average live weight of lambs at birth did not differ significantly, although in experimental
animals it was slightly lower – 4,26 and 4,25 kg versus 4,34 kg in the control. The difference
is not significant. The prolificacy of ewes in terms of 100 heads, which lambed in the
experimental groups, was 5,6 and 12,5 % higher and amounted to 118,1 and 125,0 against
112,5 % in the control.
