The study of the features of carbon dioxide emission in agrolandscapes is of great ecological importance for the development of agricultural technologies that reduce its release into the atmosphere and prevent negative climate changes – aridization, extreme precipitation, etc. Due to the lack of data on CO2 emissions in agricultural chernozems of the Central Ciscaucasia at the testing ground of the FSBSI “North Caucasus Federal Agricultural Research Centre”, studies were carried out. The purpose was to compare the intensity of CO2 production in crops of winter wheat – the leading crop in the Stavropol Territory, which covers an area of about 1,8 million hectares and fallow land. It was found that, on average, over two years (2023-2024), the intensity of CO2 production differed little in relief, both in winter wheat crops and in the fallow land. However, the release of carbon dioxide was more active in winter wheat crops. On average, over two years, CO2 emission in the fallow land at the beginning of July was 18 (the upper part of the slope – taxon A2) – 27 kg/ha (the edge of the flat interfluve – taxon A1) or 15,4 – 22,7% less than in winter wheat crops. In addition, the intensity of carbon dioxide production depends on weather conditions. In a wetter 2023, there was a more active release of CO2 from the soil. On average, it was higher for the testing ground than in drier conditions in 2024 in winter wheat crops by 31 kg/ha per day or 30,1%, the fallow land – by 28 kg/ha per day or 33,7%.
