In the Stavropol Territory, the treatment of sheep against strongylates of the
gastrointestinal tract coincides with the 3rd treatment against moniezia, and when animals are
kept indoors, benzimidazoles are used (separately and in combination with other preparations)
against trematodes-dicrocoelium, fascioles, paramphistomes. Such frequent, annual use of
benzimidazoles (it is necessary to carry out 5 treatments of lambs of the current year of birth
and 3 treatments of adult livestock and young animals of the previous year of birth) throughout many years can lead to resistance of strongylates of the gastrointestinal tract. In order to
minimize the use of benzimidazoles, and the development of resistance to them in nematodes,
and subsequently in cestodes, we were tasked to develop the preparation cestodocide, where
the active ingredient was praziquantel. The formulation and technology of preparation of a
new suspension of 2,5 % praziquantel and 0,5 % ivermectin were developed on the basis of
the laboratory of Veterinary Medicine of All-Russian Research Institute of Sheep and Goat
Breeding – a branch of the “North Caucasus FARC”. A patent was obtained. In order to conduct the experiment, we took 400 lambs of the current year of birth, which were naturally infected with moniezia in the APC breeding farm “Vostok” of the Stepnovsky district and 520
lambs, which were naturally infected with moniezia in the collective farm “Rodina” of the
Apanasenkovsky district. In the experiment, lambs were selected according to the principle of
analogy – one breed, live weight 23-25 kg. The preparation was administered orally, individually at a dose of 0,4 ml/10 kg of animal weight. It was found that a new suspension of 2,5 %
praziquantel and 0,5 % ivermectin at a dose of 0.4ml/10 kg of weight against sheep moniezia
showed 94,0 – 96,0 % efficiency. The preparation of our development differs from our previous development not only because we stopped using ethyl alcohol, there was also a simplification of the preparation technology, a reduction in the price of the preparation, as well as a
reduction in the therapeutic dose from 1.0 ml to 0,4 ml/10 kg of animal weight, which means
that dehelmintization of animals also became cheaper.
