LIRIOMYZA LEAF‑ MINER FLY – A PEST OF CHICKPEA AND TESTING OF PREPARATIONS TO CONTROL IT

Abstract

The research was carried out at the experimental field of the FSBSI “North
Caucasus Federal Agricultural Research Centre”, located in the conditions of an unstable
moisture regime zone in the Stavropol Territory. The work was carried out in 2024-2025 with
Triumph chickpea variety. The purpose of the study was to study the biology, development
and phenology of the chickpea leaf‑ miner fly (Liriomyza cicerina Rond), to take into account
its population, conduct a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of preparations with different mechanisms of its control, such as: Alterr, CE; Organza, CS; Biosleep BW, liq. As a result
of the research, it was found that the departure of the overwintered pest generation occurred
from the third decade of April – till the second decade of May when the average daily temperatures reached 10 – 14 °C. During the growing season, the development of three generations
of flies was noted, with the maximum number of larvae in the first and second decades of July, which reached the number of 134 larvae per 100 plants under control. Tests of insecticides
showed that the two-component systemic preparation Organza, CS, demonstrated the greatest
biological effectiveness – 93,2%, which provided a yield of 2,81 t/ha and a profitability of
188,7%. The pyrethroid preparation Alterr, CE, also showed high efficiency (87,7%) with a
yield of 2,37 t/ha. The biological preparation Biosleep BW, liq. based on the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana turned out to be less effective (47,2%) due to the hidden
lifestyle of the larvae inside the leaf, which limits contact with the spores of the fungus. The
conducted studies confirmed the expediency and high economic efficiency of using chemical
insecticides, in particular the preparation Organza, CS, to reduce the number of chickpea
leaf‑ miner flies and protect the chickpea crop in the Stavropol Territory.
