INNOVATIVE INTENSIVE TYPES OF SHEEP – ASKANIAN CROSSBREDS AND ASKANIAN BLACK-FACED FOR RESTORING THE SHEEP BREEDING INDUSTRY

Abstract

The article presents the results of studies on the creation and improvement, as well as the use as an improving gene pool of intensive types of sheep with record meat (at the level of imported meat breeds), milk, wool and fur productivity and especially high breeding value, both for commercial crossing and for breeding the Askania meat and wool breed of sheep with crossbred wool. Innovative intensive types of sheep of the gene pool flock of the “Askania-Nova” breeding farm are distinguished by outstanding acclimatization, adaptive and rehabilitation capacity; productive longevity with the fertility of ewes of 177 ... 187%; early reproductive and meat maturity; performance, long-term correlations between meat, milk and wool productivity, as well as excellent quality characteristics of meat, elastic, silky, luster crossbred wool and wool sheepskins. Import-substituting intensive types of Askania selection have no analogues in the world market of breeding resources, which determines, with state support, the feasibility of forming their export potential, as well as their wide use for the restoration of sheep breeding in Russia on a domestic innovative basis. Closed micropopulations of Askania crossbreds and Askania black-faced sheep F₁₂-F₁₈ (generations) with high genetic diversity (9 lines and 30 family groups), with the achieved selection plateau of record combined productivity are a generating genetic basis.
