MORPHOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE TREATMENT EFFICIENCY OF TENDON INJURIES IN RABBITS WITH THE HELP OF PRP THERAPY IN THE EXPERIMENT

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is widely used in veterinary practice, in particular in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in animals. Due to the presence of growth factors, anti-inflammatory mediators in platelets, when PRP is administered to the area of damaged tissue, a stimulating regeneration and anti-inflammatory effect is achieved. Also, the plasma itself has both a stimulating regeneration effect and an anti-inflammatory effect. PRP therapy has a clear advantage over hyaluronic acid and steroid anti-inflammatory preparations in the treatment of tendon injuries in animals, as it has the most significant analgesic effect and prevents the formation of scar tissue in the tendons. The most relevant use of PRP therapy is in the treatment of tendon injuries in horses, but conducting an experiment with the selection of material with subsequent morphological examination is difficult due to the high value of this type of animal. In order to conduct a demonstrable study, an experiment was conducted to identify the effectiveness of PRP in the treatment of Achilles tendon injuries in rabbits. Among practicing veterinarians, there is an opinion that the higher the concentration of platelets in PRP, the better the therapeutic effect can be achieved. We conducted a study on the use of PRP therapy, in which the concentration of platelets in the plasma did not exceed the reference interval in the clinical blood test in rabbits in the treatment of Achilles tendon injuries. The study demonstrated that PRP, which contained a platelet concentration that did not exceed the reference interval in the clinical blood test of rabbits, had a significant stimulating effect on the regeneration of injured tendons. Thus, PRP with a low concentration of platelets can be recommended for practical use.
