APPLICATION OF PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) IN THE TREATMENT OF FARM ANIMALS (REVIEW)

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is used in veterinary practice primarily as a universal remedy for stimulating the regeneration of damaged tissues in animals. During the research, which was conducted in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the anti-inflammatory effect of PRP therapy in the treatment of wounds in animals was also clearly demonstrated. The effect of treatment with PRP is achieved due to platelet-derived growth factor, anti-inflammatory mediators, and lysozyme, which is found both in platelets and in the blood plasma itself. Studies were conducted on the effect of PRP on wound healing in animals in an experiment and its high efficiency was proven. It was found that PRP promotes wound healing, which is especially important in the treatment of horses, since the wound process is often complicated by purulent inflammation in this type of animal, and PRP therapy has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. PRP also prevents the formation of excess granulation tissue in horses during wound treatment. Unfortunately, PRP therapy does not have an antifungal effect, and its use is ineffective in the treatment of mastitis of fungal etiology in cattle. At the same time, the use of PRP is promising in the treatment of cattle, but the technology still requires modification, since in this field of veterinary medicine it is important to follow the principle of economic efficiency. Since PRP therapy is an alternative to antibiotic therapy, it is effective in the treatment of bacterial mastitis in cows, and the development of modified PRP therapy for the treatment of cattle could significantly increase the economic efficiency of breeding and dairy farms.
