SELECTION AND FORMATION OF SELECTION GROUPS IN PEDIGREE FLOCKS OF FINE WOOL SHEEP BREEDS BRED IN THE STAVROPOL TERRITORY

In the leading breeding farms of the Stavropol Territory on the basis of agricultural production co-operative “Breeding farm Vtoraia piatiletka” of the Ipatovsky District, agricultural production co-operative collective breeding farm “Put Lenina”, agricultural
production co-operative collective breeding farm “Manych”, collective farm (kolkhoz) “Rodina” of the Apanasenkovsky District and agricultural production co-operative collective
breeding farm named after Lenin of the Arzgirsky District, the productive and breeding qualities of fine wool breeds of sheep are annually evaluated. The purpose of our researches, which
were presented in the article, was to create and form a population of highly productive flocks
of fine wool breeds of sheep, which combine high meat and wool productivity, as well as to
determine the optimal structure of the breeding flock. The object of the research was ewes
from the selection group in the amount of 16252 head and stud rams in the amount of 2377
head. The results of the research for a five-year period for determining the number of ewes of
selection groups of planned, fine wool sheep breeds in the Stavropol Territory: Stavropol, Soviet, Manych, Dzhalginsky and Russian meat Merino were analyzed and presented. It was established that in breeding farms of the Stavropol Territory populations of five highly productive breeds of sheep, which combine high meat and wool productivity characteristics, were
created. At the same time, the selection differential of selected ewes of fine wool breed in
breeding farms is 1-12.0 and 0.1-0.9 kg of live weight and washed wool shearing, or 6.0-20.0
and 2.2-21.4%, and these parameters show the characteristic selection progress of breeding
flocks of sheep. Productivity indicators of stud rams used in the breeding process, which exceed the minimum requirements of animals to the I class on live weight by 19.0-50.0 or 24.4-
66.7% and pure wool shearing 0.7-3.4 kg, or 12.7-75.0%, which rather positively characterizes their genetic potential for the leading breeding farms of the Stavropol Territory.
