Abstract

Winter barley crops in the Stavropol Territory currently occupy more than
200 thousand hectares; they are unevenly distributed among the zones of the region and differ
in yield. Various factors play a role in the formation of barley yield, including correctly selected varieties. In order to stabilize grain production, the proposed assortment of barley in the
region is not enough, so the development of new varieties, which are well adapted to cultivation conditions, is important. The purpose of this research was to determine the prospects of
the new winter barley variety Daniiar, which was developed at the FSBSI “North Caucasus
Federal Agricultural Research Center”, based on traits that ensure its high yield. The variety
was studied in competitive variety trial nurseries in 2021–2023 according to the Methodology
of state variety testing. The experiments were carried out using complete fallow on ordinary
chernozem in 4-fold repetition, the location of the plots was systematic, the accounting area of
the plot was 10 m2. Temperature conditions and precipitation during the years of the research
were above normal. Uneven precipitation led to drought in autumn and spring periods. The
variety Daniiar was developed by repeated individual selective breeding from a hybrid population, which was obtained by hybridization of the variety Lorelei from Germany with the variety Erema of the FSBSI “Agrarian Scientific Center “Donskoi” selective breeding. The variety is in the process of state variety testing. The variety Daniiar is a high-yielding variety, as
evidenced by the data of competitive variety testing. The highest yield in the experiment
(12,69 t/ha) was achieved by the variety in 2022. On average over 3 years, the yield of the
new variety was 10,06 t/ha, the yield of the standard Hutorok was 8,64 t/ha, the difference
with the standard was 14,1%. Exceeding the yield provides a complex of characteristics of the
variety: higher levels of ear grain content, productive tilling capacity, lodging resistance,
drought resistance and disease resistance. The protein content in grain in different years was
12,0...13,3%, for the standard – 11,9...12,8%. The variety is recommended to use for fodder.
