CORRELATION OF SUDAN GRАSS SAMPLES IN THЕ EVALUATION OF DROUGHT RESISTANCE

The article presents an evaluation of drought-resistant samples of Sudan
grass under conditions of artificially simulated stress, which is advisable to use in breeding
new varieties with high adaptive potential, which are adapted for cultivation in arid regions of
the Russian Federation. The research was carried out in the laboratory of the FSBSI Russian
Research and Design-Technological Institute of Sorghum and Corn “Rossorgo”. In the seed
imbibition experiment, a sucrose solution (С12Н22О11) with the osmotic pressure of 19 atmospheres and a potassium nitrate solution (KNO3) with the osmotic pressure of 72 atmospheres
were used. Different concentrations of sucrose were used to create osmotic stress: 8,3% (6
atm), 12,4% (9 atm), 16,5% (12 atm), 20,7% (15 atm), 24,8% (18 atm). Currently, the latest
researches involve studying the correlations between various economically valuable traits of
Sudan grass, as this allows optimizing breeding work at its early stages. In order to enhance
the productivity of creating initial breeding material, it is necessary to identify correlations
between traits, highlight the strongest connections, and carry out further work based on the
obtained data. The analyzed correlation coefficients of the main physiological and breeding
traits indicate the expediency of selecting initial material, which is characterized by high
yield, seed imbibition (in hypertonic solutions), and resistance to stressful conditions (osmotic
stress of different concentrations). Statistical processing of experimental data was performed
with the use of “AGROS 2,09” program through correlation analysis. When analyzing yield
and physiological traits in the experiments, a negative correlation was found between the
length of seedling with 18 atm sucrose and seed yield r= -0,65 – -0,60.
