DIRECT SEEDING AND ITS INTERPRETATION IN MODERN AGRICULTURE

The article gives a sufficiently detailed analysis of the formation and development of
direct seeding (zero tillage) in modern conditions. It considers and summarizes long-term data
on the study of various soil treatments for crops of grain-row crop rotation in the experiment
of Center for Precision Agriculture (CPA) of Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow
Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. Among the methods of soil cultivation, the following are
compared: moldboard plowing, minimal cultivation and zero tillage (direct seeding). Moldboard plowing was in the lead for most years. However, this does not exclude the possibility
of tillage minimizing and even rejection of it. On average, over the years of research, the crop
yield with plowing was ahead of the zero tillage: winter wheat by 0.10 t/ha, mixture of vetch
and oat by 2.8 t/ha, moldboard plowing was ahead of the minimum tillage in potatoes by 3.3
t/ha, barley – by 0.10 t/ha. However, a complete rejection of tillage and the use of direct seeding make necessary additional measures of weed management, fertilizing, creation of favorable conditions for the growth and development of crops. This can only be achieved by using a
combination of techniques and tillage depth in crop rotations.
