Abstract

The use of acaricidal agents to combat ectoparasites of animals in veterinary medicine
is an essential part of veterinary interventions. Arthropods parasitize animals causing skin inflammation and other uncomfortable sensations. Also, they are carriers of blood parasitic diseases.
The repellent and acaricidal efficacy of the DELCID® 7.5 agent against ectoparasites
was studied on 40 head of cattle of the Kazakh Whiteheaded breed with a live weight of 400-
520 kg in the Stavropol Territory. Experimental studies were carried out in “Novomaryevskiy
Farm Firm” LLC in Shpakovsky District. The agent was singly applied using a dosage device
to the dry and intact skin of the back from the head to the tail base along the spine at a dose of
15 ml/ 100 kg.
The calculation of the acaricidal efficacy was carried out on the basis of a decrease in
the number or absence of ixodic ticks and dipterans on treated animals in comparison with
untreated animals. In order to determine the period of acaricidal and repellent effect of the
agent, the method of visual examination and palpation of each animal was used at an interval
of 7 days during 35 days. The duration of the repellent effect was estimated as the time during
which the coefficient of repellent effect decreased to 70% and lower.
According to the results of the studies, DELCID® 7.5 agent (series 040421O) at a dose
of 15 ml/100 kg of live weight showed high acaricidal efficacy against dipterans (zoophilic
flies of genus Musca and mosquitoes of family Psychodidae) and ixodic ticks (Dermacentormarginatus, Haemaphisalis punctate). Animals completely (100%) got rid of insects and ixodic ticks after 3 days. The repellent effect of DELCID® 7.5 agent, in which the coefficient of
repellent effect was higher than 70%, lasted 21 days against ixodic ticks and 35 days against
dipterans.
