Abstract

In the process of scientific experiment, a new method in Karakul sheep breeding of Kazakh intrabreed Sur type with bronze coloring using herds of animals with varying degrees of inbreeding has been developed. The index parameters for the selection and breeding of sеlectable colors have been developed that allow increasing the genetic potential of animals.

In the selection of the bronze coloring, the used visual phenotypic assessment reduces the effectiveness of the high-value animals selection on the breed. Bronze colored lambs, referred to the intensive manifestation of Sur properties, with an objective assessment taking into account the content of eumelanin, were distributed as follows: over 30% – 31,03% of individuals, from 10% – 24,14% of individuals.

An index method for the selection of animals with bronze color has been developed using rams with eumelanin content in the range of 10-30%, which allows us to increase the intensity of coloring by 12,79%, evenness by 7,94% and contrast by 9,72% compared to traditional methods of assessment. Inheritance of the index is constant in all gradations from 59,22 to 67,74% (td 12,13-16,12), which indicates the effectiveness of the breeding work. In herds, the classiness of lambs with  bronze coloring increased by 10,74%.
