Abstract

This article presents the results of improving the Edilbaevsky sheep of local selective
breeding based on the use of breeding animals of the Edilbaevsky breed of three intrabreed
types (Brliksky, Suyundiksky and Kurmangazinsky). The purpose of this study was to
determine the correlation between the main economic traits in young ewes of different
selection variants at the age of 1.5 years. One of the most significant economic and selective
breeding traits is live weight, which positively correlates with the wool production rates of
sheep. The calculation of the correlation parameter between the live weight and the
parameters of wool productivity made it possible to reveal the different nature of the relations
between the noted traits in animals of different selection variants. When considering the
relations between the live weight and the amount of wool shorn in young ewes of different
genotypes, it was found that its greatest rates were observed in the offspring of the
Edilbaevsky sheep of the Suyundiksky and Kurmangazinsky types r = 0.50-0.54. A
comparatively low correlation parameter between live weight and the amount of wool shorn
was observed in sheep obtained by crossing Edilbaevsky breeding animals of the Brliksky
type and sheep of local selective breeding, r = 0.16. The identified nature of the relations
between the live weight and the amount of wool shorn in sheep of the second and third groups
was also manifested in the analysis of the correlation dependence between the live weight and
the length of the outer-coat fibers, which amounted to r = 0.37-0.42. A rather low correlation
parameter between the live weight and the length of the outer-coat fibers was established in
the sheep of the first group, r = 0.08. Live weight and the length of the under hair have a
similar pattern. During the research of the relations between the amount of wool shorn and the
length of outer-coat fibers and under hair, a positive correlation was also noted in animals of
all selection variants. However, the greatest degree of correlation with the amount of wool
shorn was typical for the selection variants of crossing breeding animals of the Brliksky type
and local Edilbaevsky ewes in the length of the outer-coat fibers (r = 0.44), the length of the
under hair (r = 0.52). The offspring of Suyundiksky and Kurmangazinsky types of rams had
less, but positive rates (r = 0.28-0.30).
