Cryopreservation of genetic material and artificial insemination allow you to get the
maximum number of descendants from high-value stud rams. However, in sheep farming, in
contrast to other branches of animal husbandry, there are some difficulties that arise when
cryopreservation of sperm of this animas species, which lead to low results of using frozenthawed semen. This article presents the results of evaluating the impact of ram semen
cryopreservation in various ways on its quality indices. Experimental studies were conducted
on stud rams of three breeds: Poll-Dorset, Jalginsky Merino and Russian Meat Merino.
Qualitative and quantitative indices of freshly obtained and frozen-thawed semen have been
studied, in particular, volume, mobility, concentration, cryoresistance and the state of the
acrosome. It was found that the cryoresistance of ram sperm in all three breeds was at a high
level and the mobility of sperms after thawing fluctuated slightly: from 4,3 to 4,7 points
without significant differences between breeds. High quality indices of ram semen frozen
both in pellets and in straws after defrosting have been proved.
