Abstract

Silkworm eggs keeping in sericulture is the basis for the further normal development
of the following silkworm stages – larva, pupa, butterfly. In order to increase the viability
and, as a consequence, productivity of the recognized silkworm breeds Kavkaz-1 (K-1) and
Kavkaz-2 (K-2) during multiple fattenings from spring to autumn, the silkworm eggs keeping
condition has been improved. The place of the research was incubation rooms, rearing rooms
(silkworm nursery) in Research Station of Sericulture – a branch of the Federal State
Budgetary Scientific Institution "North Caucasus FARC", Zheleznovodsk, Inozemtsevo. The
studies were aimed at selecting the optimal duration balance of the summer-autumn
(estivation) and winter keeping periods with the setting of temperatures during hibernation +2
and -4 ° C. In order to control the state of the embryo in the silkworm eggs during keeping,
from the first month of estivation, the samples were systematically scalped. To evaluate the
revival of silkworm eggs, incubation was carried out at different periods of fattening: spring,
spring-summer, summer and autumn. The studied keeping conditions are appropriate for
spring fattening of silkworm larvae. Any of these methods can be used for long-term keeping
of hibernating silkworm eggs in order to provide with reproductive material for any period of
multiple fattenings. For late periods of fattening (autumn), the most optimal control option is
the 1st one, which allows getting revival of silkworm eggs of the breeds: K-1 – 92.1%, K-2 –
87.6%. As a result of the research, an improved technological scheme of the estivation and
hibernation of silkworm eggs among recognized silkworm breeds in the Russian Federation
has been developed: K-1, K-2, which makes it possible to extend the time of keeping
silkworm eggs by 2-2.5 months and to carry out multiple fattenings.
