BREEDING VALUE OF A NEW VARIETY OF FIELD PEA CHARYSH

Pisum sativum L. is one of the promising pea species, which is widely cultivated in Western Siberia. The growing shortage of vegetable protein is one of the most important problems of agriculture, especially in the fields of feed production. In the Altai Territory, stable pea harvests are not possible in all years, which can lead to an even greater decrease in the nutritional value of green forages in the diet of animals. Therefore, the improvement and cultivation of environmentally flexible varieties of peas is an urgent and important task. The purpose of our work was to determine the potential of a new pea variety Charysh, which was created in the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Federal Altai Scientific Center of Agricultural biotechnology” according to a set of economically valuable traits that ensure its universal use. Phenological observations and records of the variety in the competitive variety trial were carried out in the period of 2020 – 2022. Stationary field experiments were conducted with complete fallow on leached chernozem. The location of the plots was systematic, the repetition was fourfold. The registered area of the plot was 10 m2. Meteorological parameters during the years of research differed from the norm. Fluctuations in precipitation provoked drought in the autumn and spring periods. The variety Charysh was created by individual selection from the hybrid combination Krasnyi yar 455 x Talovets 55. Charysh is a highly productive variety based on the results of competitive variety trial. The three-year average yield of the new variety (26,4 t/ha) exceeded Avans by 1,6 dt/ha. Resistance to lodging, diseases and pests was at the standard level. The seeds were nonshattering. The variation of the protein content in seeds in different years was 23,5...26,5%, for the standard – 23,4...25,3%. The use of variety is recommended for feed grain and food grain.
